CISOs are worried about threats from the dark web but aren’t doing much about it. Searchlight Cyber recently polled over a thousand CISOs working for large companies. They found that 93% were worried about threats from the dark web, and 72% thought that knowing about cybercriminals was “critical” to protecting the endpoints and data of their organization. However, they must do more to collect intelligence on these groups, their tools, networking, MOs, etc.
Worth the trouble
Ben Jones, CEO and co-founder of Searchlight Cyber, believe that gathering dark web intelligence will help businesses better understand their adversaries and increase their chances of spotting an attack. The researchers found that 71% of CISOs would love to see if their suppliers are being targeted on the dark web, but only 32% of those gathering intelligence from the dark web are using it to look for attacks on their supply chain. Most of those in the finance industry (85%) already gather data, while the healthcare industry lags with 57%. The oil and gas industry could also do better, with just two-thirds (66%) of CISOs saying they harvest data. As a result, CISOs could be more confident about stopping cyberattacks. Organizations must begin monitoring the dark web to spot the early warning signs of attack and improve their security posture.
