Google is expanding a verification program for financial services ads launched in the U.K. last summer. The verification layer sits atop Google’s financial products and services policy. It adds a layer of security against the adtech giant accepting and running ads for crypto investment scams. Australia, Singapore, and Taiwan are the first three markets to get the requirement.
The U.K.’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) launched a crackdown on unscreened financial ads in the U.K. market earlier this year. Google has said that the policy change has led to a reduction in reports of financial scam ads. But the company doesn’t offer any data to back up its claim that the change has reduced reports of such ads.
